Kannapolis pitchers hold Fireflies to 2 hits
Luis Martinez allowed two hits over six innings, leading the Kannapolis Intimidators past the Columbia Fireflies in a 2-1 win on Monday.
Martinez (4-1) allowed one run while striking out three and walking three to get the win.
Columbia started the scoring in the first inning. After reaching base on a walk, J.J. Franco scored on a triple by Luis Carpio.
The Intimidators took the lead for good with two runs in the second inning. Evan Skoug and Mitch Roman both drove in runs en route to the one-run lead. Columbia committed two of its three errors for the game in the second inning.
Columbia’s Chase Ingram (1-1) went four innings, allowing two runs and two hits in the South Atlantic League game. He also struck out four and walked five. Fireflies pitchers walked a total of seven batters in the contest. Matt Foster retired the side in order for his sixth save of the season.
