Former Gilbert standout Chris Owings is headed to the disabled list, a day after being hit by a pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Owings suffered a fractured middle finger against St. Louis, and the Arizona Diamondbacks placed him on the 60-day disabled list Monday. That will likely put him out for the rest of the regular season. It’s unclear if he will return for the postseason if Arizona makes the playoffs.

Owings is in his fifth season in the majors and was in the midst of best year. He was hitting .268 with 12 homers and 51 RBI.
