Medina, Gimenez lead Fireflies to sweep of Augusta
Andres Gimenez singled three times, and Jose Carlos Medina allowed just two hits over six innings as the Columbia Fireflies topped the Augusta GreenJackets 5-0 on Thursday.
Columbia swept Augusta for the third time in 2017 and finished the season series with 15 wins in 25 meetings.
Medina struck out five and walked four.
All five runs came in the eighth inning. Columbia got on the board first when Dan Rizzie scored on a single by Jay Jabs. The Fireflies added to their lead when J.J. Franco hit a three-run double and then scored on a single by Dash Winningham.
Matt Pobereyko (2-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief, while Jose Morel (2-2) took the loss.
