Greenville Drive blanks Columbia Fireflies
GREENVILLE Bobby Dalbec was a triple short of the cycle, driving home four runs and scoring a couple as the Greenville Drive topped the Columbia Fireflies 10-0 on Thursday.
Santiago Espinal doubled twice and singled twice for Greenville.
In the bottom of the first, Greenville exploded for five runs, including a three-run home run by Jerry Downs. The Drive added four runs in the second and a run in the fifth. In the second, Dalbec hit a three-run home run, while Dalbec hit an RBI double in the fifth.
Greenville starter Bryan Mata (4-6) picked up the win after allowing just three hits over five scoreless innings. Columbia starter Justin Brantley (2-2) took the loss after allowing nine runs and 10 hits over four innings.
The Fireflies were held off the scoreboard for the 11th time this season, while the Drive’s staff recorded its 11th shutout this year.
