Winningham bats Fireflies past Crawdads
Dash Winningham doubled and singled twice, and Darwin Ramos allowed just two hits over 5 2/3 innings as the Columbia Fireflies beat the Hickory Crawdads 3-1 on Friday.
Matt Blackham struck Yohel Pozo out with a runner on second to end the game for his sixth save of the season.
Ramos (2-2) picked up the win after he struck out six and walked four while allowing one run.
Columbia got on the board first in the fourth inning when Winningham hit an RBI single. Ian Strom scored on a wild pitch and Winningham scored on a groundout.
The Crawdads cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Alex Kowalczyk hit an RBI single, scoring Eric Jenkins. Kowalczyk was the lone Hickory batter to have multiple hits, recording two of the team’s three base knocks.
Edgar Arredondo (6-6) went seven innings, allowing three runs and seven hits while striking out seven Fireflies.
The teams will play the second game of the three-game series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
