Former Lexington standout named Southern League All-Star

Lexington grad Nick Ciuffo was named to Southern League postseason All-Star team, released this week.

Ciuffo is catcher for the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The former Wildcat is is hitting .246 with seven homers and 42 RBI in 99 games but has really come in the second half of the season in helping the Biscuits to a spot in the Southern League playoffs.

Ciuffo is hitting .305 since the end of June and hit safely in 28 of his last 34 games. He is ninth in the league with 27 doubles and has thrown out 38.3 percent of base runners this year.

Ciuffo is the No. 25-ranked prospect in the Rays’ organization.
