Nevin, Santos lead Tourists past Fireflies in pitchers’ duel
Tyler Nevin had three hits and scored two runs, and Antonio Santos struck out 10 hitters over eight innings as the Asheville Tourists beat the Columbia Fireflies 4-1 on Wednesday at Spirit Communications Park.
Santos (9-9) picked up the win after he allowed one run and four hits.
Up 2-0 in the third, Asheville extended its lead when Manuel Melendez hit a solo home run.
Columbia answered in the bottom of the frame when Oliver Pascual hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Arnaldo Berrios.
The Tourists tacked on another run in the eighth when Bobby Wernes hit an RBI single, bringing home Nevin.
