Burton powers Chapin-Newberry in American Legion Southeast Regional
Kevis Burton pitched six strong innings and hit a two-run homer as Chapin-Newberry defeated Tallahassee 6-3 on Saturday in the American Legion Southeast Regional.
Post 193/24 will host Randolph County for the championship Sunday at 4:30 p.m. C-N (27-0) needs one victory while Randolph needs to win twice. The winner of the tournament advances to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C.
In six innings, Burton gave up six hits, two earned runs, walked four and struck out seven. Peyton Spangler pitched the final three innings for the save.
Burton was 3-for-5 at the plate, and his two-run homer gave C-N a 6-2 lead in the seventh inning. Landon Allison was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Danton Hyman was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
Chapin-Newberry trailed 2-0 after one innings, but scored one in the third inning and three in the fifth inning to lead 4-2.
