Chapin-Newberry wins Southeast Regional

Landon Allison drove in four runs, including a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning, to help Chapin-Newberry past Randolph County 6-4 on Sunday to win the American Legion Southeast Regional championship.

Chapin-Newberry (28-0) advances to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina on Aug. 13-18. It’s the third time in the past five seasons a team from South Carolina has advanced to the American Legion World Series.

Post 193/24 will face the Great Lakes champion in its first game of the World Series on Friday at 7:30 p.m. All World Series games will be carried on ESPN3.com with the semifinals and championship game on ESPNU.

Chapin-Newberry’s Danton Hyman was named Southeast Regional MVP.

For the second straight game, Chapin-Newberry fell behind and was down 1-0 going into the top of the fifth before scoring four runs to take the lead. Allison had a two-run homer, and Andrew Livingston had a two-run single in the inning.

After Randolph County tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, Chapin-Newberry took the lead for good in the top of the sixth as Allison’s two-run single scored Peyton Spangler and Blake Smith. Ryan Stoudemire made it 6-4 with an RBI single in the top of the eighth.
