Chapin-Newberry completes comeback at American Legion World Series
Chapin-Newberry completed the largest comeback in 32 years at the American Legion World Series as it rallied from six runs down to beat Connecticut 7-6 on Sunday at Keeter Stadium.
Landon Allison’s RBI single drove in Kevis Burton with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth to complete the comeback. Chapin-Newberry trailed 6-0 after four innings and was down 6-1 heading to the eighth before scoring six times to make it to the semifinals.
C-N (30-1) will play Oregon Monday at 4 p.m. in the first semifinal and it will be carried on ESPNU. The Oregon/Chapin-Newberry winner will play the Louisiana/New Jersey winner for the championship Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Burton was 1-for-4 with three RBI, and Justin Hawkins was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Hawkins got C-N on the board in the seventh with a solo homer and then walked with the bases loaded in the eighth as C-N cut the lead to 6-3.
Burton then ripped a three-run double as Post 193/24 tied it up at 6. Allison followed by singling in Burton with the game-winner.
Connecticut had the tying run on the in the bottom of the ninth, but Patrick Yoder got Tommy Seaver to ground into a double play to end it.
Josh Haney picked up the win in relief, and Yoder got the save.
