Fireflies explode past RiverDogs

The Columbia Fireflies broke their three-game losing streak in a big way.

The Fireflies notched a season-high in runs in defeating Charleston 13-1 on Monday in the opening game of a three-game series at Spirit Communications Park.

Tyler Moore had three hits, and J.C. Rodriguez and Dash Winningham each had two hits and drove in two runs. David Thompson had two RBIs, but saw his 10-game hitting streak end.

The Fireflies put the game away with an eight-run eighth inning.

Columbia (6-6) also benefited from 10 walks by RiverDogs’ pitchers.

Joe Shaw pitched six shutout innings, gave up four hits and struck out eight to improve to 2-0. Seth Davis pitched the final three innings to pick up his first save.

Trey Amburgey led Charleston with three hits.
