RiverDogs shut out Fireflies
Josh Rogers and Willie Gabay combined on a three-hitter as Charleston defeated Columbia 7-0 on Tuesday night at Spirit Communications Park.
Rogers allowed three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings to pick up the victory. Gabay pitched the final 1 1/3 innings as the Fireflies were shut out for the first time this season.
Second baseman Thairo Estrada had three hits, including a pair of solo homers in the game. Estrada homered in the first and seventh innings. Third baseman Drew Bridges also belted a solo homer.
Center fielder Trey Amburgery had three hits, including a pair of triples, and an RBI for the RiverDogs, who had 11 hits.
Chase Ingram (1-1) took the loss for Columbia. He gave up three earned runs on eight hits in six innings.
The teams will play the final of the three-game series on Wednesday at 11 a.m. P.J. Conlon will start for Columbia against Charleston’s Cody Carroll.
