Drive stop Fireflies’ four-game win streak
Greenville used an early burst to snap Columbia’s four-game win streak on Sunday, defeating the Fireflies 5-1 at Fluor Field.
Vinny Siena had two singles for Columbia (10-8). The Woodbridge, Conn., native has reached base safely in all 18 games this season.
Greenville scored three runs in the first two innings off starter Joe Shaw (2-1), with Josh Ockimey and Tate Matheny driving in runs for the Drive (10-8).
The Fireflies scored their lone run in the top of the third. Milton Ramos drilled a line drive off the top of the center-field wall for his first double of the season. Tucker Tharp then dropped a base hit down the right-field line to score Ramos.
Logan Boyd (3-1) picked up the win for Greenville, giving up one run in five innings.
The Fireflies return to action on Tuesday against the Lexington Legends at 7:05 p.m. at Spirit Communications Park. Manager Chase Ingram (2-1, 2.81) is scheduled to make his fourth start of the season for Columbia.
