Fireflies open series with 13-2 romp of Lexington Legends
The Columbia Fireflies returned home to Spirit Communications Park Monday and blasted their way to a 13-2 win over the Lexington Legends.
Three different Fireflies (11-8) hit home runs to help build a six-run lead through the first three innings. When the Legends (8-11) scored a run in the top of the fourth, Columbia put the game away with five runs in the bottom half.
While J.C. Rodriguez, Ivan Wilson and Tucker Tharp hit round trippers for the Fireflies, third baseman David Thompson led the team with three RBIs.
All the offense proved more than enough for starting pitcher Chase Ingram (2-1), who tossed six innings for the win. Ingram allowed two runs, one earned, on on four hits and two walks while recording eight strikeouts. Christian Montgomery tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Alex Palsha closed the game with three consecutive strikeouts.
The teams will return at 7:05 on Wednesday.
