Wilson’s homer paces Fireflies
Ivan Wilson homered and Columbia pounded out 15 hits to defeat Charleston 8-4 on Saturday night.
The Fireflies (21-21) jumped out to the lead in the first when Vinny Siena scored on a wild pitch, and J.C. Rodriguez scored on a Milton Ramos single.
Columbia added two more in the third thanks to Wilson’s two-run home run, his fourth of the season. Rodriguez had an RBI single and Ramos had a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 6-0.
The RiverDogs (26-15) cut the score the 6-2, but Columbia added two runs in the sixth.
Joe Shaw (3-2) struck out 10 over seven innings. He gave up seven hits and two runs to pick up the win, and Johnny Magliozzi picked up his third save. Yefrey Ramirez (1-1) took the loss.
