P.J. Conlon’s strong start lifts Fireflies

P.J. Conlon gave up one run over 7 2/3 innings, and Columbia edged Augusta 2-1 on Monday night at Spirit Communications Park.

The Fireflies (22-22) notched a run in the first when Vinny Siena scored on a Patrick Mazeika groundout. Columbia added a run in the fourth when Mazeika’s sacrifice fly scored J.C. Rodriguez.

The GreenJackets (21-23) got a run in fifth on Matt Winn’s home run.

Conlon (7-0) struck out seven and walked none in the win. Christian Montgomery picked up his first save.
