Blowfish beaten by run in ninth

The Lexington County Blowfish mounted a two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the Wilson Tobs, only to surrender the game-winning run the top of the ninth in a 4-3 loss Tuesday at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Starting pitcher Tucker Burgess tossed 6 1/3 strong innings before being chased. He allowed one earned run and recorded five strikeouts before being replaced by Trevor Bradley.

Will Smith started the ninth, gave up a run and suffered the loss. Sean Byrnes picked up the win for Wilson, halting the Blowfish rally in the eighth and shutting them down in the ninth.

Brett Auckland went 3-for-5 and scored a run for the Blowfish (11-8), while Brandon Johnson had the big two-run hit in the eighth inning. Chris Singleton and Danny Edgeworth also scored runs for Lexington County, which will travel to Asheboro on Wednesday.
