After losing their first five games after the All-Star break, the Columbia Fireflies have won two in a row, including Wednesday’s 10-1 demolition of the Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday.

Designated hitter Jeff Diehl went 3-for-3, with three RBIs and two runs scored, while David Thompson continued his strong play after returning from and injury, posting two hits, two runs and driving in two more.

Starting catcher Patrick Mazeika also had a very productive game, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. J.C. Rodriguez had two hits and scored twice batting from the leadoff spot while Tyler Moore pinch-hit for Dash Winningham and scored two runs.

The Fireflies trailed by a run after the first inning, but took control of the game with six runs in the seventh inning, making a winner out of relief pitcher Witt Haggard (1-2), who tossed three scoreless innings in relief of Chase Ingram.

The Fireflies roadtrip will continue on Thursday when they travel to West Virginia for the first game of a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
