Three Columbia teams capture Dixie Youth Baseball state titles

The Midland and Blythewood All-Stars captured a pair of Dixie Youth state baseball championships Thursday.

Midland defeated Hartsville, 10-0, to win the O-Zone championship held in Inman, while Blythewood defeated McLeod Park of Florence, 8-7, to win the AAA championship in Union. Both teams went undefeated in their respective tournaments.

In Midland’s championship run, the team hit a state-record 23 homers in its five victories.

Area teams have won three Dixie Youth Baseball state titles this summer. Midland won the Dixie Youth Coach Pitch state championship in Florence by beating Hartsville Northern 7-6 on July 12.

All three teams advance to their respective Dixie Youth World Series to be played in Laurel, Mississippi. The Dixie Youth Coach Pitch World Series begins July 30, while the AAA and O-Zone World Series start Aug. 6.
