Kamiri best in Guardians of the Night K-9 Race
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department sponsored the Guardians of the Night K-9 Race last Saturday in Columbia. It probably brings back special memories for some folks who have spent years as trainers for service dogs.
The Guardians race drew 189 female runners and 143 males. Francis Kamiri, 30, led the pack to the finish in 15:10, first overall. Second place went to Blythewood’s Hunter Jarvis, 19, in 16:29. Columbia Masters Runner O.J. Striggles, 41, was third overall and first-place Masters finisher in 16:46.
Purity Munene, 30, was first female overall with a 5:55 pace and finished seventh overall in 18:22. Second female and 12th overall, Summerville’s 20-year-old Abigail Bozarth’s time was at 19:49. Columbia runner Jennifer Lybrand, 30, was third in 22:04.
Columbia’s first Ronald McDonald House Trail to the Ale Race 5K on July 22 was won by Lexington’s Adam Feigh, 24, in 17:38. Thirteen-year-old Zander Jeffcoat was second overall in 18:06. Columbia’s Drew Williams, 39, finished third overall in 18:35.
Columbia’s Tracy Tisdale, 47, was first female finisher in 26:43. Columbia’s Caroline Besley, 22, was three seconds back and was second female overall in 26:50. Columbia’s Olivia Lockhart, 30, was third female finisher in 28:00, 25 overall.
