Midlands running: Striggles shines at Red Bank
The Lexington Red Bank 10K and 5K races held May 30 found Columbian Orinthal Striggles (OJ) still clinging to age 39, where he finished first in the 10K in 36:44. Aiken’s Brady Rafanan, 17, was second in 40:33. From West Columbia, Shawanna White, 35, was third overall in 41:20 and first female. Thirteenth overall, Lexington’s Gina Campbell, 33, was second female in 49:29. Columbian Erin Thompson, 32, was third female in 52:36. Columbia Running Club’s Master Writer and promoter of the sport, Alex McDonald, 40, was first male Masters finisher, sixth overall in 44:16. McDonald reports near full recovery from last year’s fall over the side of a Hawaiian cliff.
The Red Bank 5K had 171 finishers led by Chapin’s Ryan Plexico, 31, in 17:12. Columbian Jordan Lybrand, 28, was second in 17:52. Chapin’s Parker Roof, 15, finished third in 19:54. The following times and ages hold promise for the future. Gilbert’s Garrison Budic, 12, was sixth overall in 22:26. Lexington’s Alex Curlee, 14, was seventh in 22:39. Pelion’s Whitney Craft, 13, was first female overall and ninth open overall. In 13th, Columbian Barbara Brandenburg, 48, was first Masters Female in 24:14. Columbian Holly Beckham, 35, was 17th overall and third female in 25:14.
