Columbia’s Peter Mugglestone, 70, wins 5K race
Patience pays off for older runners who keep on looking for the right event, the right date and the right crowd.
There were 20 finishers at Columbia’s Daughters of the Nile 5K June 27. Leading the pack, first overall in 31:22, was Columbian Peter Mugglestone at age 70.
Columbia’s “Sweat it Out 5K” on June 6 had 157 finishers. Columbian Bennett Egan, 15, won first overall in 17:55. Rick Southard, 24, was second in 18:21.
Bob Daley, 49, was third overall and first Masters runner. In fourth place, Columbian Kenzie Riddle’s time was 19:02. Columbian Mary Claire Cox, 38, was fifth overall in 19:21. Alex McDonald, 40, was second male Masters in 19:29, sixth overall. Columbian Heather Brumbach, 37, was third female overall in 19:54, tied with Irmo’s Anna Jenkins, 13.
The Hewitt 5K in Chapin had 118 registered finishers led by local resident Kieran Schnetterle, 25, in 19:17. Anderson’s Chris Powell, 27, was second in 19:34. Chapin resident Yoan Penev, 19, was third in 19:38. Irmo’s Alexa Golbus, 17, was first female and ninth overall in 21:08. Her twin sister, Ashley, was second female, 11th overall in 21:26. Columbian Leah McKee, 32, was third female, 20th overall in 25:34.
