Kornblut’s radio show to air full two hours in Columbia area
Columbia fans of Phil Kornblut’s “SportsTalk” evening radio show, aired statewide by the S.C. Radio Network, now are able to listen to the entire two-hour program each Monday-Friday on The POINT (WQXL, 95.9 FM and 1470 AM).
Before this week, the station was able to air only one hour of SportsTalk each night, but station founder and longtime Columbia radio personality Keven Cohen said the full show is now available from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. weeknights.
A sports-radio staple for more than three decades, SportsTalk previously was carried in Columbia by then-Clear Channel Broadcasting before that network discontinued its relationship with Kornblut’s show.
Best known regionally for his extensive coverage of college sports recruiting, Kornblut is joined on the show by co-hosts Kevin McCrarey and Tom Hayes. SportsTalk, with 29 affiliates statewide, originates in Columbia.
“SportsTalk has provided cutting-edge talk radio in South Carolina for 32 years,” Cohen said this week. “Nobody else covers our state like Phil and KMac.
“The POINT’s goal as a radio station is to get as local as possible. This helps us talk all things Carolina and Clemson for two hours each night.”
In addition to expanding SportsTalk, Cohen also said The POINT will carry The Citadel football games this fall for the second season.
Besides the open-air broadcasts, SportsTalk is streamed live at www.makethepointradio.com.
