Friarsgate park in Irmo was festive Wednesday as fans gathered with local baseball and softball one last time to let the magnitude of their season sink in.
Over the past 30 years, teams from the Irmo Little League have earned 45 state championships in 13 divisions, so winning seasons are quite familiar.
This season, four baseball and one softball division won state championships, and four teams made World Series appearances. It’s the first time in the United States that a league has sent four teams that deep into the postseason, according to Jenn von Ahn, vice president and director of baseball for Irmo Little League.
The Irmo Little League All-Stars, comprised of players from the 12-year-old majors division, made it all the way to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and won three games there.
