Big field ran in Stomp the Swamp

Way out in the wilds north of Columbia, the Stomp the Swamp 5K on Aug. 29 drew 189 hardy finishers.

Michael Nance, 38, led the field in 18:34. Second place went to Darryl Hammond, 51, in 18:52. John Hennis, 49, was third overall in 19:37. Thirty-two year old Devon Shirley finished in sixth place, first female overall in 20:14. Jennifer Conrick, 45, was second female in 22:17 and 15th overall. Joyce Welch, 46, and Julia Early, 45, had a close finish with Welch in 23:27 and Early in 23:28.

Finishing 105th, Henry Holt, 79, is moving toward the 80-84 age group. In the 40-44 age group, Columbia Running Club President, Alex McDonald, managed a 20:37 finish.

The Tour De Columbia, sponsored by the Columbia Running Club, is an annual competition that is fiercely competitive across age groups. What follows is a current listing of the status of the top three female and male runners in the competition.
