‘Southern Charm’ cast members disagree on probability of third season
Thomas Ravenel declared on Facebook Tuesday afternoon that “Southern Charm,” the Bravo TV show he stars in, was no more.
He posted the words “It’s over” and a link to a story from Yibada, a China-based media company, that cited poor ratings and his departure as reasons the show was reportedly canceled.
However, Shep Rose, who also stars in the reality show based in Charleston, said that Ravenel’s comment was “wildly speculative.”
“Thomas doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Rose said. “He’s not a bad guy, but he has a few drinks and makes declarative statements.”
Ravenel does have a precedent. After season 1 wrapped, he was adamant on social media that he would not return for a second season and did.
There is speculation that without Thomas and Kathryn’s explosive and dysfunctional relationship to drive a third season, fans would lose interest. But ratings for the past season were not low.
The season 2 finale of the series scored the show’s highest ratings to date, which Bravo Media said delivered 1.7 million viewers, up 11 percent over the inaugural season finale.
Bravo also said the episode had the highest social activity.
“I can’t speak for anyone else and I don’t even know myself for sure” Rose said regarding a third season, but added, “I would put it at high odds that there would be another season.”
