Shop Around: Studio 2LR to renovate, relocate to former Wilson Upholstery site
Architectural firm Studio 2LR has purchased the former Wilson Upholstery building at the corner of Main Street and Confederate Avenue. The firm plans to renovate the 3,500-square-foot space and move into it this summer.
Studio 2LR plans to preserve the architectural features that are original to the building, which is believed to have been constructed in 1938 according to property records.
"We plan to keep and reglaze the large steel windows and preserve the interior exposed brick and concrete floors to make it feel very similar to the original space," said Studio 2LR vice president Gretchen Lambert.
In addition to the former Wilson Upholstery building, the 2428 Main St. property is also home to a former gas station which Lambert said Studio 2LR may develop for a tenant in the future.
Studio 2LR was formed in 2005 by Lambert, Wes Lyles and Tripp Riley. For 11 years the firm has worked out of offices at 801 Gervais St.
