Questions remain in man’s death at Northeast Richland nursing home

Richland County officials continue to investigate the death of a man who was found dead in a nursing home last weekend.

Investigators are trying to determine if there was negligence involved in the death of David Outlaw at National Health Care in the 7600 block of Parklane Road, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson said.

Outlaw, 66, was found face down pinned underneath his wheelchair shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday in a puddle left by rain from Hurricane Matthew, officials said.

An autopsy revealed he drowned after falling out of his electric wheelchair.

Officials at the nursing home could not be reached for comment Monday.
