Metts‘ name taken off boat landing
The name of former Lexington County Sheriff James Metts soon will be taken off a boat landing on the lower Saluda River near his home.
Its removal was approved by the Legislature Thursday.
The step follows County Council’s decision last week to erase Metts’ name from the county law enforcement complex.
His name is disappearing from public facilities after he pleaded guilty Dec. 30 to a federal charge stemming from interference in identification of two illegal immigrants at the jail he once oversaw.
The boat facility will return to its former name of Hope Ferry Landing. New signs with that title will go up shortly.
Removal of Metts’ name from the landing won House approval Thursday after it cleared the Senate last week.
