Columbia artists present Paintings for Pakistan

Seven Columbia artists will exhibit works for sale at “the Climb,” a private art studio and gallery at 1622 Bull St. Thursday and Friday to support the charity fund for the Christian Hospital Sahiwal in Sahiwal, Pakistan.

The exhibit will run 5-7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Friday. It will feature landscapes, portraits, figure paintings and scenes of South Carolina life. The paintings will include woodblocks, canvasses in oil, acrylic and watercolors of various sizes.

The featured artists include Claire “Suzy” Farrell, Miriam Mays, Missy McIver, Charlene Wells, Betty Kornegay, Marshall and Henry Foster. All are members of First Presbyterian Church, where several Columbia-area physicians who also are members have volunteered at the Sahiwal hospital several years.

“The charity help given to those who can’t afford medical care at the hospital is a visible way to demonstrate the love and compassion of Jesus Christ to those in need,” said Dr. Robert Belding, an Columbia orthopedic surgeon.

Christian Hospital, Sahiwal is operated as a ministry of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian denomination. It has been in operation for more than 100 years and is a 170-bed hospital with medical, surgical, and public health programs, and a fully accredited school of nursing and a nurses’ hostel.
