Moore Orthopedic to join Palmetto Health physician group
Moore Orthopedic Clinic, a partner with Providence Hospitals in recent years, is joining the Palmetto Health organization.
Moore and Palmetto Health announced the union Tuesday, saying Moore will be an “employed practice.” While Moore has had a partnership with Providence since 2006, many of Moore’s 21 physicians also have performed operations at Palmetto Health facilities.
One of Moore’s two major facilities is at Providence Orthopedic Hospital in Northeast Richland. The other is a free-standing clinic near I-20 in Lexington. The future of the Northeast Moore facilities is unclear. The news release announcing the new partnership said details of Moore’s future office location have yet to be finalized.
A spokeswoman said Providence Hospitals would have no comment Tuesday on the Moore-Palmetto Health partnership.
Typically, employed physicians work exclusively with the healthcare system and hospital facilities that employ them. “During the next 90 days, we will be working with the Moore physicians to transition them into full use of Palmetto Health facilities,” according to Palmetto Health.
Moore has been a fixture in Columbia since 1928, when Dr. Austin Moore founded the center. Dr. Moore later created a hip prosthesis considered a breakthrough in the field. In 2006, the Moore Clinic and Columbia Neurosurgical Associates joined in the Providence Orthopedic & NeuroSpine Institute at the new Northeast Richland hospital. That was so successful, the hospital was rechristened Providence Orthopedic Hospital.
“They are an important part of the Columbia community and share our commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our patients,” said Charles D. Beaman Jr., Palmetto Health’s CEO. “Their mission, vision and values make them an excellent cultural fit with Palmetto Health.”
“The Moore physicians are excited to join Palmetto Health and more closely align our efforts to provide excellent orthopedic care,” said Moore physician Dr. Bradley P. Presnal.
Moore’s physicians handle a variety of orthopedic concerns, including pediatrics, joint replacement and sports medicine.
