Major Columbia road near downtown partially closes after car catches fire

Part of Main Street near downtown Columbia was blocked after a car caught fire Monday afternoon, according to a Tweet from police.

The southbound lanes of the busy byway were temporarily closed at about 1 p.m., according to the Tweet. The closures happened on the 2100 block, which is near Elmwood.

Columbia firefighters responded to the scene to put the fire out.

The street reopened at about 1:30 p.m.
