Portions of Augusta Road in West Columbia closed due to vehicle fire

Portions of Augusta Road in West Columbia are closed Wednesday afternoon due to a vehicle fire.

The West Columbia Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the 1300 block of Augusta Road around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to Assistant City Administrator Brian Carter. The fire involves a privately owned sanitation truck.

The West Columbia Police Department has closed Augusta Road from 12th Street to S. Parson Street, Carter said. Motorist and residents are asked to avoid the area until the road reopens.
