Hopkins man charged with murder in Saturday morning shooting death of wife
The husband of a woman whose body was found Saturday morning in a Hopkins home was charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.
Mimi Joe Marshall, 57, allegedly confessed to relatives that he had killed his wife,, Doris Marshall, 58. Lott said the shooting may have been precipitated by a verbal argument.
Deputies were called to the home at 3976 Leesburg Road, Lot 5, Saturday morning to check on the welfare of a resident.
Deputies found Doris Marshall inside the home and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Witnesses told investigators that they heard a single gunshot and saw the victim’s husband flee the property in an SUV.
Mimi Joe Marshall was taken into custody without incident around 12:30 p.m., Lott said. He was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Saturday night.
An autopsy will be performed on the body of Doris Marshall Sunday morning, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.
