SCDOT announces upcoming road construction projects
The South Carolina Department of Transportation has announced several road construction projects that are scheduled to begin in the upcoming months in Richland and Lexington counties.
The scheduled projects are as follows:
▪ Expect minor nighttime delays, flagging operations and lane closures on Elmwood Avenue westbound at the bridge leading to the I-126 and Huger Street interchange in Richland County for bridge deck patching. Completion is anticipated Aug. 31, 2015.
▪ Expect minor delays, flagging operations and lane closures along Two Notch Road from Smith Pond Road to just east of Barr Road in Lexington County for intersection improvements. Completion is anticipated Sept. 30, 2015.
▪ Expect minor nighttime delays, flagging operations and lane closures on Forest Drive and Trenholm Road in Richland County for signal upgrade work. Completion is anticipated Sept. 11, 2015.
▪ Expect delays and nighttime lane closures for exit ramp work on I-20 at Monticello Rd. (mile marker 68) in both directions. The westbound right lane at Exit 68, I-20 at Monticello Road, will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday Aug. 28 through 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug 31. Please use alternate routes as delays are expected due to the closure. Periodic lane closures may occur during this time on Monticello Road to facilitate work on the exit ramps. Completion is anticipated Sept. 30, 2015.
▪ Expect minor delays, flagging operations and lane closures at the intersection of Dreher Shoals Road and Farming Creek Road in Richland County for intersection improvements. Completion is anticipated Sept. 30, 2015.
▪ Expect delays and nighttime lane closures to widen I-20 from I-77 (mile marker74.7) past Spears Creek Church Road (mile marker 84.6) in Richland County. Completion is anticipated Aug. 31, 2015.
▪ Routine nighttime lane closures are expected on I-26 from the I-77 and U.S. 321 interchange (mile marker 115) to S.C. 6 and Caw Caw Road (mile marker 136) in both the eastbound and westbound directions. The eastbound and westbound I-26 travel lanes from I-77 (mile marker 115) to Old Sandy Run Road (mile marker 125) are now shifted to the right to provide room for temporary concrete barriers and heavy construction in the highway median. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 miles per hour in this area. Dixiana Road beneath I-26 has been closed and local traffic detoured for reconstruction of the I-26 bridge over CSX railroad and Dixiana Road. Interstate milling and paving is underway between MP 125 and MP 135, eastbound and westbound. The eastbound and westbound rest areas near MM 122 are closed for the duration of this project. The anticipated completion date for this project is October 2015.
▪ Expect delays, flagging operations and lane closures on St. Andrews Road and Wescott Road in Lexington County for signal upgrade work. Completion is anticipated Aug. 31, 2015.
▪ Expect delays, flagging operations and lane closures along Augusta Highway from Schofield Road to Old Field Road in Lexington County. Anticipated widening construction along US-1 in this area will be completed December 2015.
▪ Expect minor delays, flagging operations and lane closures along Leaphart Road from Hebron Drive to just west of Mineral Springs Road in Lexington County for intersection improvements. Completion is anticipated Aug. 31, 2015.
▪ Expect minor delays, flagging operations and lane closures on Rimer Pond Road in Richland County for resurfacing. Completion is anticipated Aug. 31, 2015.
▪ Expect delays, flagging operations and lane closures on Lower Richland Boulevard in Richland County for clearing and roadwork. Anticipated completion date is Aug. 31, 2015.
▪ Expect minor delays, flagging operations, and lane closures at the intersection of Mineral Springs Road and Cromer Road in Lexington County for intersection improvements. Completion is anticipated Aug. 31, 2015.
Motorists are urged to drive cautiously through construction areas and be on the lookout for construction crews.
