Overturned tractor trailer causing delays on I-20

Traffic is being delayed on I-20 westbound after a tractor trailer overturned Wednesday afternoon, according to Irmo Fire District officials.

Fire Chief Clyde Thomas said Irmo firefighters were dispatched to I-20 near the Exit 170-A ramp in reference to an overturned tractor trailer just after 12:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the tractor trailer was leaking oil from one of its tanks. The driver, Thomas said, was uninjured.

Columbia Fire Department’s Hazmat team along with South Carolina Highway Patrol, South Carolina Department of Transportation and the Department of Health and Environmental Control are at the scene assisting Irmo firefighters.

S.C. Highway Patrol investigators are still determining what caused the tractor trailer to overturn.
