CENTRAL SOUTH CAROLINA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY and Spring Valley Presbyterian Church are hosting a 5K and 5-mile race in the Woodlands subdivision at 8 a.m. Saturday. Register online at svpc.org/roadrace. Register at strictlyrunning.com.

CENTRAL CAROLINA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION has opened nonprofit registration for Midlands Gives through Feb. 29. The 24-hour Midlands Gives local online giving challenge will be May 3. Nonprofits that register before Nov. 15 will be enrolled to win a $500 early bird prize. Register online midlandsgives.org. HOPE VIRTUAL 5K RUN will take place the month of November as a virtual 5k. Patricipants can run, walk, cycle or use a treadmill at their own pace and participate. DONATIONS

THE SOUP CELLAR at Washington Street United Methodist Church is asking for the community’s help in donating backpacks for the men and women served there. Personal hygiene packets for men and women, as well as socks, underwear and clothes are needed. Items may be dropped off at the soup cellar at the church, 1401 Washington St., downtown Columbia, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. or left at the church office Monday through Friday. (803) 256-2417

FRIENDS OF THE ANIMALS needs thrift donations. Sales from the items are used to take care of and feed dog and cats. Furniture, knickknacks, used pet items and other types of thrift donations are needed; drop off at The Black Dog Inn, 321 E. Columbia Ave., Batesburg-Leesville. (803) 604-1303

GOOD NEIGHBORS

SPIRIT OF TRUTH CHRISTIAN CHURCH is giving away water, canned goods and clothes for residents affected by the Oct. 4 flood. Items are available for pickup at the church, 4201 Abingdon Road, Mondays and Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Wednesdays 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Dec. 31. Donations can also be dropped off at the church.
