Richland County coroner identifies Queen Street shooting victim
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual who was killed in a shooting early Monday morning on Queen Street.
Coroner Gary Watts said 40-year-old Richard Gilmore, of Columbia, died of complications from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Watts said Gilmore’s death has been ruled as a homicide.
Police Chief Skip Holbrook said officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Queen Street, near Santee Avenue, at 1:30 a.m. in reference to the shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Gilmore dead on the porch of the residence, Holbrook said.
Officers and investigators collected evidence from the area and interviewed witnesses throughout the morning, Holbrook said.
