U.S. Judge Anderson shows his (sports) leanings

That’s a lot of paw on the front lawn of the federal courthouse in Columbia. U.S. District Judge Joe Anderson, a Clemson University graduate, jokingly said he’s unsure how the 50-foot, rye grass decoration got there. But this best view of the paw is from a window in Anderson’s chambers.

U.S. District Court Judge Joe Anderson allegedly is responsible for a 50-foot tiger paw embossed this week onto the front lawn of Columbia’s U.S. courthouse.

The logo just happens to be for Anderson’s alma mater, Clemson University, which plays Monday night for the national football championship. Anderson’s son, Fletcher, also was Clemson’s kicker 15 years ago. And the best view of the paw just happens to be from the window of Anderson’s office at the Matthew Perry Courthouse.

When asked, Anderson would say only that he “wasn’t sure how the paw got there.”

But, he added, no taxpayer money was spent.

Anderson, who earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina, raised a Gamecock flag on the courthouse flag pole when USC won the College World Series.
