Child killed in Orangeburg County crash, that sends seven more to hospital
A head-on collision between two vehicles early Sunday morning has left a child dead and seven others hospitalized, said the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred in Orangeburg at 3:15 a.m. on SC 3, approximately a mile from the town of Springfield, said Sgt. Bob Beres of the SC Highway Patrol. Beres said a 2002 Nissan sedan, driven by 29-year-old Tiffany Brown, was traveling north when it crossed the center line and struck a Kia sedan head on.
Brown was traveling with two children, one who died and another that was transported to an area hospital along with Brown, said Beres, who added it was unknown if Brown was wearing a seat belt, or if either of the children were properly restrained.
The Kia was driven by Princess Tooks, 30, who was wearing a seat belt, but was still transported to an area hospital, along with her four passengers, Beres said.
The collision remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
