Richland County coroner identifies victim of industrial accident

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was killed during an industrial accident at a business located in southeast Richland County Thursday morning.

Coroner Gary Watts said 36-year-old Ryan Danser, of Willington, Conn., died when the tank truck he was working on lost its hydraulic functions and caught him between the truck bed and the tank. Firefighters and coroner’s deputies were dispatched to the Utility Group of South Carolina, located in the 1300 block of Pineview Drive, in response to the incident.

Watts said an autopsy performed Friday morning revealed that Danser died from asphyxiation due to a crushing injury.

The business is listed as a machine shop, which works on industrial-sized tanks.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office and OSHA will continue to investigate the incident.
