McNair retiring as Cayce police chief
Cayce Police Chief Charles McNair is retiring after 16 years overseeing law enforcement in the Lexington County community.
He is stepping down May 1, ending a 42-year career that started as a firefighter before he became a state trooper and then a State Law Enforcement Division agent.
In a statement, McNair said he is proud of adding officers while expanding training and reliance on technology.
Officially, McNair, 60, is public safety director, overseeing both police and firefighters in the city of 13,000 residents.
His successor will be chosen later this spring.
“It’ll be wide open for all candidates,” city spokeswoman Ashley Hunter said. “We want the best fit and best qualified for our community.”
