Donnie Myers’ DUI charge to be prosecuted by Department of Public Safety
Donnie Myers has wielded the law as 11th circuit solicitor for four decades. But now that he’s on the other side of the courtroom facing a DUI charge, someone from outside the solicitor’s office must step into the role of prosecutor.
“Lexington County has a DUI prosecutor in the solicitor’s office, but it would be a conflict of interest in this case for someone in the solicitor’s office to prosecute,” said Lt. Kelley Hughes with the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
The Office of General Counsel at DPS, lead by chief of legal counsel Warren Ganjehsani, has been assigned the job, Hughes said. That office “has the authority per the Attorney General to prosecute these cases,” he said.
