DNR searching Lake Murray for man who jumped off boat
Divers and aircraft are searching Lake Murray for a man who jumped off a boat Saturday and disappeared.
An unidentified Irmo man was on a boat with friends and family on Saturday before he jumped into the water and swam away, Department of Natural Resources spokesman Robert McCullough said.
The boat drifted away and the man went under as he tried to swim back, McCullough said. Friends and family tried to reach him but couldn’t make it, he said.
“He obviously could swim, but when he turned back – we don’t know if he caught a cramp or what,” McCullough
The search is concentrated in the northeast corner of the 47,500-acre lake near Flotilla and Susie Ebert islands.
