Drowning victim identified as Olympia woman; car fire victim ID still being investigated
A 37-year-old woman who lived in Olympia has been identified as the person whose body was pulled Sunday from the Broad River.
Lindsay Kellam McKay drowned, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a statement issued Monday following an autopsy.
McKay had been reported missing Saturday night about 9:10 in the river near Greenwyche Drive, Watts said. She lived on Maryland Street.
Her body was recovered at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the coroner said.
He did not release the manner of death, but said the Richland County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the suspicious death.
The coroner’s office also is pursuing information about the identity of a woman who was burned Sunday after a car chase in Forest Acres.
The Forest Acres Police Department tried to make a traffic stop in the 5200 block of Two Notch Road around 3:15 a.m. when the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed, Watts said at the time.
The vehicle went off the right side of the road, striking several utility poles and a fence, said Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Watts said Monday that his office is working to confirm the woman’s name, but lacks sufficient information to release a name.
