Body found in Richland home after fire, foul play suspected
The Sheriff’s Department is investigating possible foul play after a body was found in a burning home in northeast Columbia on Wednesday.
Deputies responded around noon to a home on the 1700 block of Morninglo Lane at the request of the Columbia Fire Department and Richland County EMS, according to Sgt. Brittany Jackamonis. They learned that firefighters found a deceased person inside the home, which is located near Interstate 77, just off Decker Boulevard.
Richland County investigators are in the preliminary stages of the investigation and are treating the fire as foul play, Jackamonis said.
Additional details about the fire were not immediately available.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
