Second suspect arrested in Sumter birthday party shooting
Sumter police have made another arrest in connection with a shooting outside a Sumter nightclub where a teenager’s birthday party was being held.
James Caleb Williams, 17, of Sumter was arrested Sunday night on Delaware Drive, according to department spokeswoman Tonyia McGirt. He was wanted for attempted murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime and for being a minor in possession of a handgun.
Three teenagers were injured early Saturday morning when gunfire erupted outside a Sumter nightclub where a teenager’s birthday party was being held, Sumter police said.
A 15-year-old girl, found by police in the parking lot of Club Creme with a gunshot wound to the leg , was described as an innocent bystander.
Two teenage boys (aged 17 and 18) also were hit in what police characterized as an exchange of gunfire. Sumter police were called to the Tuomey Regional Medical Center where the two sought treatment for their gunshot wounds.
None of the injuries was thought to be life-threatening, police said.
The 17-year-old, Malik Raekwan Myers of Mayesville, SC, was identified by police as one of two asuspects in the shooting. After being treated for a bullet wound to the leg, he was taken to the Sumter-Lee Detention Center and charged with attempted murder.
