SUMTER, SC A 31-year-old Sumter man was charged Thursday with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after he allegedly threatened the mother of his two children, the Sumter County sheriff’s department said.

Barksdale’s former girlfriend told authorities that on June 1 Dennis Barksdale, Jr. attacked her in the front yard of her home.

According to the incident report, around 9 pm she noticed that he had driven up to her home on Simmons Drive in Sumter. She said when she went outside to see what he wanted, he got out of his car, dragged her by the hair and slammed her up against a tree. She said pulled a handgun and put it her her head saying he should have killed her because she told child support officials where he lived.

Barksdale was being held at the Sumter-Lee Detention Center Thursday afternoon awaiting a bond hearing.
