Richland County Coroner IDs victim of fatal shooting off Broad River Road

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the person killed in an early Thursday morning shooting near Broad River Road.

Rickey Daniel Baker, 26, died at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital at 7:17 a.m. Thursday, Watts said. An autopsy showed that Baker died as a result of a gunshot wound received during that incident.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1800 block of Longcreek Drive off Broad River Road at 6:45 a.m. Thursday in reference to a shots-fired call, Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said

When deputies arrived they found Baker who had been shot multiple times in the upper body, Lawrence said. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
