SC Highway Patrol investigates fatal Midlands car accident

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal rush-hour crash in Newberry County.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. Friday when the unidentified driver was traveling north on Old Whitmire Highway, 4.3 miles north of Newberry, according to a statement from South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The deceased was the sole occupant of a 1997 Ford Pickup. The truck swerved off the road to the right and then to the left before colliding with trees, said Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brandon Bolt

No other cars were involved in the collision, which is being investigated by Highway Patrol. The Newberry County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the deceased.
